Building South Africa's next generation of farmers.
Kopanang Agri Institute is a Free State-based agricultural development organisation whose name means “to gather” in Sesotho. We gather emerging farmers, established commercial producers, learners and rural households around one shared outcome: land that keeps producing, season after season. Our work is rooted in the Free State — the bread basket of South Africa — where maize, sunflower, wheat and livestock form the backbone of both the regional economy and the national food supply.
We exist because agriculture in South Africa is engineered, not inherited. Too many emerging farmers are given access to land but left without the practical skills, working capital, or ongoing mentorship needed to turn that land into a productive enterprise. Kopanang closes that gap. Through accredited, hands-on training in livestock husbandry, crop production and farm business management, we equip farmers with the technical competence and commercial discipline required to farm profitably and sustainably.
Our programmes are delivered on working farms, with real animals, real machinery and real margins — never in a classroom alone. Farmers learn to dose livestock, prepare soil, select inputs, build enterprise budgets, and keep the records that unlock finance. Beyond training, our mentorship pillar pairs each farmer with an experienced producer for season-long guidance, while our development pillar supports soil preparation planning, input selection and budgeting. Over more than a decade we have trained upwards of 800 farmers across 40 partner farms, working alongside schools, sponsors and commercial partners who share our conviction that a supported farmer is a farmer who stays farming.
Whether you are an emerging farmer ready to grow, a school seeking agricultural exposure, a sponsor looking to invest in rural livelihoods, or a commercial partner in search of reliable producers, Kopanang Agri Institute offers a clear pathway from intention to harvest. Learn, grow, and sustain with us.
